Day 3
27th July 2013
This morning I go down to breakfast about 08:00 with Tracey before meeting the group at 09:00 to explore some of Bangkok. We head off out and catch the local bus to the flower market to visit the temple for the reclining Buddha. Although iv been here before its interesting this time to hear some of the history which Bond explains to us as last time I came here alone. We wander round the temple for a while before heading down to the river to get our long boat for our tour of the Klongs canal. We have two boats and they go speeding across the river and enter the maze of canals that run through this part of Bangkok. The building along the banks vary so much from luxury houses to shanty wooden huts. Most of the buildings are shanty huts with washing hanging out in the early morning sun and local people standing on their porches waving to us as we go past. At one point we see a large lizard bars king on some concrete steps in the sun followed later by what looks like a dead pig floating outside one of the houses. We continue along and the boat driver stops so we can buy some bread to feed the hundreds of catfish which seem to be everywhere along the banks. Steven and Anna buy a bag of bread and share it with the group in our boat. We head off again and before long we are racing down the main river again before being dropped off at the dock. We get off in a not very graceful manner to be honest as the boat is very low to the dock and moving quite a lot. Once we are all on shore again we head off down the road to meet our mini vans which will take us to the bus station for our 6 hour trip to Sukhothai.
We arrive at the bus station and have around an hour to wait before the bus leaves. This gives us time to go and get something to eat and for me to get credit on my phone. We wander around and all end up at KFC and everyone tries to order. The thing is it seems that KFC has no chicken as almost every item we try and order they don't have!!!!! After lunch I ask Bond to sort me out some credit for my phone so I can call Sharon. Before long it's time to get on the local bus which is comfortable and before long a film is put on in Thai but with English subtitles. Once we set of a guy comes round with a free bottle of water and a cake? Dont get that back at home. Half way through the journey we stop for a 20 minute break and then hit the road again. The journey should be around 7 hrs but by the time the bus has stopped at the various stops on route it's almost 21:00 before we arrive at our hotel. Check in and get our bags to our rooms and then down to dinner. We all order our meals and I have a noodle dish. My meal comes out and it looks like noodle soup and as Jackie has ordered soup I wait for a while and don't want a repeat of the dinner in Laos a couple of years ago when I ate half of Monique's dinner before I found out it wasn't mine. I sit there for a while but Jackie meal still hasn't arrived. So I decide to start. I get almost to the end of my meal and Jackie's meal finally arrives, it's not soup!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We finish our meals and drinks and all turn in for the night it's been a long day and we are all ready for a good nights sleep.
