Day 2 ( still in Jaipur)
Had a lie in and had breakfast which consisted of toast, egg, pancakes and Nutella!!! We then just chilled which was nice as we were all pretty knackered after all the flying we had done. Most of us decided to eat in the accommodation for lunch which was so good we had chickpea curry and rice. After lunch the fun began we were split into to groups to do Bollywood dancing, henna making and sari workshop! The dancing was hillarious and we danced to jai ho and then had to teach them one of our songs from home. Henna was pretty cool and we all have it on our arms and hands - no allergic reactions yet!!
All 20 of us decided to go out for super together but as we were pretty much in the middle of nowhere there wasn't much choice! Our guide kept telling us to go to Pizza Hut or mc Donald's but we wanted to venture out and eat Indian food. The guys decided we should go to a fine dining cuisine at the top of a run down shopping centre. Everyone sat down took one look at the menu a decided we should all leave!! - embarrassing to say the least as we were their only customers!! Eventually everything was ok as we ended up in a really nice Indian restaurant eating a very spicy veggie korma and amazing garlic nan!!
Today:
Sorry we haven't updated the blog yet! Literally haven't stopped but at our house in Delhi now! We have had a hilarious first 10 days - been on a camel ride & spent the night in the desert! Was so much fun but we were not a fan of the smelly camels and the damp tents we slept in! Our arses also hurt so much after all the camel riding - AGONY!! Ione's camel was called Ali Baba and was her new best mate although we thought she had been kidnapped when we didn't see her for the whole 2 hour journey & the guy kept her right at the back all the time!
We have been doing our fair share of volenteering too - kids are so cute but smelly!! We painted a classroom in boiling heat (nearly died) never sweated so much! Felt like celebs when we turned up as we were swarmed with all these kids :) also did a bit of teaching too in a really poor village & had one of the women dance for us which meant we had to dance for her so we did the Macarena!!
Whilst we were volenteering we stayed in huts with a straw roof and there were lizards in them the whole time - there was one lizard that was absolutely huge - Tess was on the loo and she saw it in the bathroom - didn't realise that it could have killed me with one bite......... The electricity was VERY temperamental and we found ourselves in the dark a lot at night with no air con which meant Emma was pouring bottles of water over her head to keep cool!
Also really wanted chocolate one day so Ione and Tess told the chef it was Tess' birthday just to have a cake!! Fatties! They actually got us one! So cute.
So there are 20 of us in the real gap group and there are 2 groups - our group decided to pay the extra to go to Udiapar (a really cool city in India where Octap**** the James Bond film was filmed) - also posh and becks and Shakira have been a few times and Liz Hurley is getting married there this year - it was WELL worth the trip as our hotel was really nice and a lovely place but wasn't so much a fan of the 13 hour bus journey!
We think its important we explain a scale of Delhi belly we have created!
0 = feeling good
1= a stomach ache
2 = light diarrhoea
3= heavy diarrhoea and sickness
4 = full explosion of both!!!
5 = poo yourself
So far everyone has had stage 1 at some point due to the amount of curry and carbs were eating!! We decided to branch out last night and go to Pizza Hut!
Unfortunately two people in our group have had to go to hospital and be on drips as they were so ill!! Definitely a scale 5!!
On a nicer note this morning we went to the Taj Mahal which was incredible! We were so lucky as had a sunny morning although we're not joking when we say we have never sweated this much!!! It was boiling and we had to cover up wearing leggings and trousers!! It's weird we had about 20 photos with different Indians as they are fascinated by us and wanted photos with us all the time!!
So we are now in Delhi for 2 nights before getting a train to Haridwar for our trekking, cookery course and yoga classes! We then head over to Goa for our last week - it has gone so quickly! We are teaching in Goa as well as hopefully getting a tan (none of us have one yet!), raiding the markets and hopefully going to a tiger park!
Also - it STINKS everywhere. We can never get away from bad smells.... usually its a mixture of B.O, dried sweat, cowpat and rubbish!! Ewwwww.
Hope everyone reading this is okay & can't wait to show you all pictures & tell you some more funny stories!
Loads of love to everyone,
Tess, Ione, Georgie, Steph and Fee xxx
