So much to write about the last couple of days. After of a few days in the madness of the Old Quarter we headed off to Halong Bay on Tuesday for the overnight stay on a traditional schooner. It was a 3.5 hour trip by minivan out to Halong City where we boarded the boat and after a devine lunch we set sail for the bay and all it's beauty. Lots of gorgeous limestone rock formations towering out of the emerald green water. In the afternoon we walked through a huge cave with staligmites/tites then we went on a kayaking adventure through a hole in a rock and into an inlet unaccessible by boat. Rest of the day was spend lounging on the deck chairs with Tiger beers of course and waiting for the sun set. Another fab dinner and more drinks we went off to our cabins. Rained so hard in the night that the boat started spinning on it's mooring and there seemed to alot of comotion and running and yelling in Vietnamese on the decks above! All good in the morning and we cruised the bay had lunch and heading back to the wharf for the trip back to Hanoi.
Our flight to Denang had been cancelled and resheduled to an earlier time so there was basically only time for one Tiger beer back in the Old Quarter until it was time for the driver to take us back to the airport. Flew Vietnam Airlines to Denang which is on the central coast and only 30 mins from Hoi An. Caught a taxi to our hotel (very basic) then walked the streets looking for dinner. Found a Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) restaurant which was yum. Next day we had a quick walk around Denang (not a very exciting city then headed by bus (which was an hour delayed) on the 40 min trip to Hoi An which by some stroke of luck stopped right outside our booked hotel. Very excited as this is our first hotel with a pool and it is so hot (I'm guessing at least 40C if not more!) so pretty much the first thing we did was have a swim. Bit of a night out on the tiles which started with dinner at Cafe de Amis where the chef creates amazing dishes determined on your choice of seafood, meat or vegetarian. Then mojitos at Tam Tam followed by many of those nasty vodka buckets again at Salsa bar!!! Very early in the morning when we arrived back to our locked hotel. Hence yesterday was very subdued spent recovering, booked flights to Nhg Trang for Sunday (wanted to go Saturday but flight was full) and had a lovely dinner out at Cargo Club.
Today Saturday, Jo and Tracey went on a trip to the My Son ruins at 5am to see the sunrise so Camille and I have been dress and shoe shopping. Many tailors and shoemakers in Hoi An, a perfectly tailored dress costs about US$15 and is made same day. I have had two pairs of sandals made at US$10 each.
Weather is HOT, HOT, HOT! Even too hot to go outside and certainly too hot to lie by the pool. We are thinking of hiring scooters and heading to the beach this afternoon.
Tomorrow we are getting picked up by minivan at 7am to head back to Denang (no airport here) for 9.30am flight to Nhg Trang.
