Left our lovely guest house in Ho Chi Minh at 6am yesterday for an early flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Only a 1 hour 10 minute flight on a very dodgy looking plane whilst reading a Vietnamese newpaper showing images of the Qantas plane with the explosion in the fuselage. Nice! Made it in one piece however and ended up in at Siem Reap airport lining up for a visa which is produced pretty much instantly for a fee of US$20. Picked up and taken to our hotel which certainly lives up to it's 4 star rating. Huge modern place with a glorious swimming pool which we spent most of the yesterday lying on loungers beside drinking the Cambodia beer - Angkor.
Heading into town last night - very, very small but with a main street named 'Pub Street'. We had a cocktail at Funkey Monkey and then were lucky enough to find a sports bar down an alley that was showing the All Blacks v Wallabies game live! A few other Kiwis and a couple of Aussies there which made for a good atmosphere - pity about the score :( Dinner at Amor - we tried Khmer cooking, very nice then back to the hotel via tuk tuk.
Out to the temples via tuk tuk this morning where our hired driver took us to the check point for the US$20 day pass then to the following temples/ruins; Ta Prohm, Ta Kev, Bayon etc and the main Angkor Wat. Amazing stuff - have taken lots of photos!
Last night tonight so we are hoping there's some places open to go to - it's election day here in Cambodia and alot of places are closed so that the staff can head back to their villages to vote. Fingers crossed!
