After a long day and night flying I finally landed in Dublin at 7:30 am this morning which was over 30 minutes early. We were welcomed by a beautiful sunrise looking out of the airplane window. The flight was great with the exception of the landing, which scared me silly!!! I have never been on a plane where the wings rocked right and left just before the runway, I thought the wing was going to hit before the wheels!
Anyway, made to on the ground safe, whew! Got up to customs and actually giggled when they stamped my passport! I said "my first stamp". The man smiled and said "The most important one too".
Got out to the cab, a wonderful Irishman! All smiles, he pointed out a few sights and gave me driving tips, and dropped me at my hotel, Trinity Capitol Hotel, trip 33 euro.
Could not check in yet, I grabbed my camera and the hotel took my luggage. I walked to the docks area, more like a canal. Found out long walks in my boots not a good plan, feet hurt! The buildings are so beautiful, they have such character. Came across two military ships from Norway, a couple of the crew let me take their picture. There is a cool bridge that looks like a harp with a really cool glass building that looks like a tilting cylinder, I found out that is the convention center. The custom house is amazing, Greek statues on it of Poseidon, Hermes and possibly persephone, I can't place the woman at the top.
I met a lovely couple after asking if I could pet their dog, who I found out was named Charlie! He was a sweetie! They walked with me a bit. A limo stopped by us, I saw people inside, didn't think to take a picture, they waved at the car and the people in the car waved back and smiled. After it drove past, they informed me that was the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese. I am so bummed I did not take a picture, they have their election next Thursday, she could get voted out after like 16 years of being their President.
Walked back, got a closer look at the famine ship, you will see the statues depicting the people who suffered, heart wrenching.
Made it back to my hotel at 12:00 room still not ready. Started walking to O'Neils pub where I was to meet with some of my friends from Ryanair. My friend Agneszka found me and soon Jon was there. It was so great to meet them! Had my first Guinness and then coffee, then Agneszka had me try a Guinness with a little black currant liquor in it, Oh my gosh it is soooooo good! I am going to have to find black currant liquor to bring home! Had a great time! They are so nice :)
Made my way finally to a Starbucks and then back to the hotel around 4:30. Yay room was ready! They brought my luggage to my room. I felt stupid, could not figure out how to get the lights to work. Called the front desk and found you have to slide your key into a power box and leave it there for the electricity to work. Made the mistake of laying down, fell asleep for about 3 hours. Wifi doesn't work too well in my room so came down to the lobby to write this blog.
Well that is it for now, hopefully the pictures will download ;). Will write more later!!
