Once we were back on the mainland we caught the bus from Athens to the Miountainous region of Thessaly to Volos and then headed to Vyzitsa which is a quaint little town in the mountains with a old Platra (square) with 3 huge old trees growing through the cobbles. The next day we walked to Milies ( accompanied by a stray dog who stayed with us for the next 7 hours of walking and who we named Bobby) to visit the reknowned bakery for their tarts;spinach, peppers, cheese and mushroom. They were delicious! We were planning on doing a walk to Kala Nera along the Kalderimi ( old cobbled donkey trails linking each of the villages) which proved very hard to find but once we did it was such a pretty walk. We walked under a bright blue clear sky with the mountains behind us , olive groves beside us and the blue sea before us.
On our return to Athens Kate visited the National Museum which had an amazing collection and then we found a local Gyros place for our last ( and best!) Gyros.
