Hi, this place really saps your energy! Yesterday we went over to Hong Kong Island to Ocean Park and spent the whole day there. We visited an aviary, saw an amazing jellyfish 'show' - I can't really explain it you'll have to wait to see the photos! Then we got a cable car over to the other side of the hill and saw an acrobactic show and the pandas - they were amazing, 4 of them in all most of them sleeping but one was just sat there stuffing his face with bamboo. We then went to the childrens area and went on the rides then it was back over the other side to the aquarium which was one of the best we've seen (and we've seen a few this month!) it was basically a huge tank set up like a reef and you walked your way down the building down to the deeper water so on the top you saw all the little reef fish then as you went deeper you saw the bigger fish and sharks etc. Then we went to the dolphin and sealion show which was great, the boys loved it but it just didn't feel right after seeing them in the wild! - how pretentious! Then it was time to get our bus back to the hotel - the boys were shattered we just about managed dinner out though Joe fell asleep after his tea. Early night for us all!
Today we have done loads of walking - unavoidable really it's the best way to get around. We visited the flower market which I loved, it was basically a street lined with little flower stalls and shops, the colours and smells were lovely. Then we went to the bird market - the same thing but with birds all in little tiny cages ranging from little finches right up to cockatoos and parrots - it was very noisy and Thomas walked round with his fingers in his ears most of the time. They have very different ideas about animal welfare, there were lots of locals walking away with birds in cages so they obviously do a roaring trade. You could buy all the bird food too including live crickets. Then it was on to the goldfish market - the most amazing, loads of stalls/shops with hundreds of fish in little bags for sale (like a goldfish you win at a fair) there were also boxes of tiny terrapins and frogs, it was quite horrible to see. We also came across a shop selling puppies, just sat there in cages! Then we wandered on to the jade market which again I loved, loads of coloured jewellrey and trinkets but we stuck out like a sore thumb and we got pestered quite a bit so we didn't hang around. By this time we were all starting to flag - we got the underground across to Hong Kong Island then got the Star Ferry back across the harbour - a short journey but a great veiw and good to sit down. Then we wandered back to the hotel and the boys are just chilling out with a DVD after a hectic day. Try to summon up the energy to go out for dinner. It's a great place but not very boy-freindly and very expensive, I think they are struggling a bit as it's so busy and loads of walking. We're hoping to see the light show one evening but it doesn't start to 8pm and we're not sure they will be able to stay awake!
