Another frizz-ball hair day! As soon as I walk out the hotel door, it goes bah-doy-ing! One minute the rain hammers down, then it's all steamy again.
It was a bit like Groundhog Day today, - "Haven't we just walked this exact same street?" Started off with a lovely buffet breakfast, the staff here are lovely, & the hotel is fabulous! Funny though, the HK people burp really loudly as if it's just normal. We caught a taxi out to Stanley Beach ($60AUD)for the markets (which weren't that good), but the drive in (& later back by double decker bus) was worth it. A bit hairy being up the top & right at the front though, how do those buses fit? Saw an incredible theme park built right on the edge of a mountain. Repulse Bay is very pretty, with small stretches of sand. Loads of people swimming or running.
After the markets, we decided to catch the train to take the cable car to Ngong Ping plateau in Tung Chung to see the Tian Tan Buddha. 30 minutes of fear for me going up - it was SO steep (5.7km) & the cable cars disappeared into the misty peaks! On top of that, at one point, the crosswinds made us sway & I couldn't move - but, oh - what a view!! Hong Kong is an archipelago of outstanding contrasts between towering peaks of beautiful rainforest, to high density building. Such an interesting place. Finally got to the top, where there is a monastery village, complete with tourist shops, restaurants, the temple, huge Buddha statue...and... cows roaming around. Cont...
