I left Koa Tao on Wednesday, not really planned but just packed up and took off, thats the beauty of travelling though i suppose. The plan originally was to head to Phuket, so i booked a ticket and yet again it was a long journey. I didnt get much sleep before i left so i fell asleep on the boat pretty much straight away. Unfortunatly it was outside on the boat, and i woke up 2 hours later half brown and half red from the way i was lying. Was not too bad to be fair but still sore. The boat left Koa Tao at 10am and arrived in Suratthani at 4pm. When we got off we all expected or VIP Bus to be waiting but instead we were informed we had to get a taxi to somewhere random for the bus. It ended up that we were crammed into a minibus which was a nightmare. We arrived in Phuket at 11pm and booked into a hotel, i met a couple of English Girls and an Irish lad so we shared a room to save money. That was when it was decided that we would head to Phi Phi Island the next morning. We left the hotel at 7am to get a taxi to the port and then grabbed a boat to Phi Phi. We were told that the trip would be 90 minutes but it ended up being about 3 hours. My fuc*ing god. Coming into Phi Phi was like a dream, BEAUTIFUL. We had already decided on staying in Long Beach, a hell of a trek from anything resembling civilisation. But again, out of this world. After me and Eddie carrying the girls bags around for the last 75 years, they said they would sort the accomodation out for us whilst we waited in the bar. In the afternoon we walked in to town and had a few pizzas for dinner and then myself and Eddie waited for the girls in another bar whilst they sorted some s*** out. We ended up staying there till about 9pm when it was decided we should shower and change. We got a taxi boat back to our humble abode and payed him in advance for a return trip. As soon as we got out of the boat he started pulling away with some of our stuff on board, i asked him what the f*** he though he was doing and he didnt say anything so i dived back in to the water and pulled his boat back in. It was at this point the girls stole the ladder for the boat, we took that with us whilst we showered. We got back 30 minutes later and the man was stonking up and down the beach, pissed off about his steps. f*** Off Mate. He then tryed to charge us extra and wanted payment up front but we declined. He took us back and decided no extra was to be paid. And so we went back to the pub. At first it was only myself and Eddie that were going to go back out, but we offered to take the girls out for a few drinks, and he kept wanting to go off all the time, so i had a quiet word with him and said at the end of the day we made a promise to them, and that myself and him can always go out another night. You could tell he was a bit pissed off, but a promise is a promise. The night was fueled with alcohol and no doubt meaningless conversation as everyone was rather inebriated. It was not until we left that all the fun began. Phi Phi Island does not have roads it is operated by boat taxis, and these taxis pretty much decided when they stop for the night although it maybe advertised differently. We were all staying on Long Beach a good 3KM walk, which would take 30 minutes during the day, if we walked fast. So there we are, 1.00am, Apache Bar on Phi Phi Island, thinking what shall we do? A few ideas were thrown around, we can sleep on the beach someone says, or we will just find a road shouts someone else. NO. So there i stand, a cross between The Lone Ranger and Indiana Jones, i took a few seconds to think, gazing out in to the wilderness, i mean ocean, it was then i looked at Eddie and the girls, and calmly said 'We will walk'. Eddie expressed a look of horror and shock, whilst the girls were saying it was to dangerous, again i paused, looked at all three of them, and said, 'Il get you back, trust me.' This is where this epic adventure which should and no doubt will go down in history as one of the most prominant and proliffic stories ever to come away from the paradise that we love to call, PHI PHI ISLAND. The walk began over a short boardwalk past the ocean, strolling past the bars that were closing, take away stalls trying to sell you kebabs that obviously were not containing what the said they were, and the sound of the 70 year old Thai women shouting MASSAGE, MASSAGE, MASSAGE, those beautiful words echoing through my ears. Taken back momenterily by the seductive charms of this pensioners voice, i realised something, the tide was in, the water was deep, there was insufficiant lighting through the hills, this was going to be no ordinary journey, a journey that we will have to accomplish with 5 gold stars, we may have to walk, we may have to run, a swim was inevetable, and hell for the purpose of this story im going to say we were swing through trees like Tarzan. We stopped of abit 5 minutes later in The Hippie Bar, for what could be described as possibly 'A fairwell drink'. Eddie and I had a beer, Dawn had a Baileys, and Vanessa went for a piss. We all regrouped by the bar before heading out in to the unknown, from what i can remember i shed a few tears which glistened in the moonlight as my beer came close to emptying. Lets go. The only mode of transportation at this point was with our feet, its not often that you dont have any other options or choices. The shoes come off as we edge closer to the waters edge, i remember the feeling of different sand pushing up through my toes, when we first went on the beach, the sand was rugged and hard, very sharp in places, as we neared the water i remember the moisture and softness, this is when i though 's***, What am i doing?' We were sensible however though, we remained in an order, in a straight line. Could be described like the army, i was on the front line, the one that would face any danger first, and the one that would take a bullet for my regiment, behind me was the officer, Vanessa, who probably had the hardest job, worrying about me in front and also worrying about the 2 behind.
