So, here I sit in London wondering to myself just how lucky am I? And just how long do I really think that luck will hold out? Let me begin by saying probably not too much longer. For those of you who don't know let me recap. Having decided to quit my job at the airport in Edinburgh I took my car in to sit its MOT (warrant of fitness) which it promptly failed and having been informed by the friendly rip off artist mechanics that it was unsafe to drive due to the condition of the brakes and suspension, I decided to set off on my adventure and drive on down to London any way. So having made it to New Castle and spending the night sleeping in my car in an abandoned car park, I decided to do a wee spot of sight seeing so I set off in search of "the castle". Having driven around for ages through the twists and turns of New Castle I finally came to the area where the castle was supposed to be hiding (yes, it was small). So thinking that I'd park my car on the hill and walk over to investigate it I jammed on the brakes only to hear the all too exciting sound that wordsmiths, poets and auto mechanics can only manage to describe as PA-TINK!!! Which just happens to be the sound that a brake makes as it flies off and lands on the pavement.... So there I was with literally no brakes, brake fluid pouring out onto my tire, and starting to roll forward down a rather large and steep hill. Luckily there was a car park about 100 meters down the hill which I coasted into while engine braking. Long story short, the guys in the car park should be venerated as saints for all their help and for not charging me to park my wreck of a car there for 5 hours. I managed to rescue the 6 CD changer and car stereo before the car got picked up by the wreckers (it would have cost £400 to fix a £250 car), I end up taking the night bus from New Castle to London, and my lucky charmed life holds out once more.
