Next stop for only a night is the former capital of Italy, Florence. On our way though we made a stop at Piza, and of course visited the Leaning Tower of Piza. When I first saw it I was a little disappointed. Yes, it was definitely on a lean but I thought it would be a lot bigger and I also thought it was in a field by itself or something. Instead there's a massive church next to it and lots of market stalls. I kind of felt like I was in Thailand again. There was lots of fake stuff and they all bug you to buy their stuff. I also didn't realize that they built the tower, then because the ground was so soft and sandy that it sunk to one side. I just assumed that the Italians were idiots and accidentally built it on a lean. It was quite interesting learning about it. It was built in the twelve century, originally as a bell tower for the church and took one hundred and eighty years to build, simply because they gave up when it started to go crooked. However they resumed it but later closed it to the public as they didn't think it was safe. It was finally re-opened to the public in 2004 but they actually predict that it will fall over in about 100 years. Well anyway there's a bit of information on it.
We got to our camp site, situated on top of the hill with fantastic views of the city. We then walked into town for dinner. We went to a fantastic restaurant where surprise, surprise I had pizza :) That night we went to a karaoke bar. I will admit I did get up and sing a poor version of Five- Keep on moving. Surprisingly I didn't get booed off stage so that's a good sign I guess.
The next morning we met a local guide who gave us a tour of the beautiful city. We also got given a leather demonstration, as Italy is famous for it's leather. We then had free time and I'll admit I'm a Jersey Shore fan so of course I went and found the pizza parlor they work at.
That was pretty much it for Florence. I do wish we were here longer then half a day though.
