On our way to Croatia we went through the country of Montenegro where we had lunch and got to have a wander. It's a country that not many people know about as it only separated from Serbia in 2006. We stopped in a touristy town on the beach. It was a really awesome, cheap and chilled out place. In a way it reminded me of Thailand as it's main source of money comes from tourism.
We then continued on our way to Croatia. We drove along the coastal cliffs and omg, the views were spectacular. People have told me Croatia is very beautiful but until you see it yourself, you don't really realize just how amazing it is. Pictures don't even do justice for it.
We arrived in Dubrovnik that afternoon and that night went into the old town. Dubrovnik at night I would describe as a vibrant, laid back place. We met up with another top deck tour and headed to a few bars. It was a very emotional night for some filled with lots of fights and even more tears. It was quite interesting to sit back and just watch. I met lots of other Aussies though! It's incredible that Australia has such a small population, yet overseas you seem to meet them everywhere! They say at one time 10% of our population is always traveling.
The next day I headed back into town to explore it in day. It was even more lively and beautiful, with a good atmosphere. I did a bit of shopping, walked around the wall and also went down to the waterfront. That afternoon I went to the beach. The weather has been amazing! Lastly, that night a group of us headed back into town for dinner and gelato. Speaking of, I don't think I've ever eaten so much ice cream in my life until this trip. Gelato shops are everywhere and they're too yummy to resist!
Overall I think Dubrovnik is a place you don't need a lot of time in, yet you still have to see it at least once in your lifetime as it's quite a unique and great place.
