Today started off with a very early Skype session with the famalam. One of the best things about this hostel was the fact you had IPad use, very luxurious for a backpacker! So at 7am I dragged myself out of bed to chat to them. I've not really used Skype much before and it was really surreal seeing Mum, Dad, Aimee and Paul, I think dad was pretty intrigued by it, by the looks of things! But unfortunately due to Gem, Wang and Finley joining in the computer would only let us have a voice call. Still it was a great experience and lovely to hear them. My homesickness hasnt been too bad, there have been the odd tears but thats understandable. Talking to them made me feel more at ease though and made me want to carry on with the trip. Nothing really changes at home and I know it's all going to be there when I get back.
Anyway, so after being up so early I decided to stay up and start my exploring. I headed down to the harbour and check out the water, the harbours are probably my favourite places to go when I reach a new place because they're always so scenic and beautiful, I think it makes you reflect on things more as well (random!). I then headed to Te Papa, the local free museum. Being a backpacker you have to appreciate the freebies, even if they might bore you. How wrong I was about this place. It was spectacular, I have never seen a museum like it. The work that had gone into it must've cost millions and I spent a good couple of hours wandering around it all.
After that, I walked around the city then went back to the hostel to chill. Decided to buy some wine with my new Welsh friend and then we decided to hit the only gay bar in Wellington, appropriately named 'S&M' where I had Tui Black, which is a lot like Bitter, not the nicest taste to be honest. And then some free vodka shots because we obviously must've looked like we needed them. Crawled up to my bunk around 5am, eeek! But
