Today was a very busy day and also probably the scariest of my life!! It started off early with me getting up at 7am to watch the England footy match, which I hadn't bothered to be honest, but hey ho you have to support your country!
Around 9:30 I caught the free shark shuttle bus to Kelly Tarlton's where I would be doing my Shark Cage Experience as well as checking out the penguins, seahorses, fishies, turtles, etc! My shark cage wasn't until 12:30 so I had a couple of hours to kill before going there which gave me a good chance to check out the other animals. Saw the stingrays and penguins being fed, was very cool, the penguins reminded me of Happy Feet! Before I knew it, it was time to get my wetsuit on. I got to look behind the scenes before the cage, they do a lot of conservation work and they also take in injured sea turtles, look after them for a year or so then release them back in the wild. Some of them have chips in them so the staff can locate where they are going, kinda like a GPS!
So, I put my wet suit on (the wrong way round at first!) got briefed on how to use a snorkle then I stepped into the cage. Well...they say cage but it was made of net! I was the only one doing the shark cage but luckily the instructor was there with me. We talked the whole time, I bobbed my head underwater every so often, but probably not as much as I should have done. To actually stand there and see the outline of them circling the cage was enough for me! I learnt a lot about them and they're not all human eating machines, it definitely helped my fear of them but I can't say I'll be diving with them anytime soon!!
After changing out of the wetsuit I couldnt resist buying a Shark Cage t-shirt at the gift shop, definitely a proud moment for me! The rest of the day I chilled then had an earlyish night!
