So after finally leaving for Vegas at 2:45pm on Monday 18th I was on my way to San Diego.....except the air con broke after 30 mins. So off we went back to the Vegas bus station until we finally set off at 4pm. By this point I was very naggy, tired, hungry, thirsty and emotionaland generally on a Vegas comedown. I kept wanting to go back to Vegas, but I knew in my head that I had to move on and enjoy my couple of days in San Diego.
I finally arrived in San Diego at 11.30pm and after realising there were none of my buses running, I hitched a cab to the hostel. There were a few people around but everyone had their own little groups so I pottered off to bed to get some sleep for my early start in the morning.
It was actually a refreshing change to wake up after having 8 hrs sleep, without a hangover and not dying from the intense heat! However, using a quilt at night is strange now!
I caught the bus to the Zoo and spent the day there for my birthday. It is one of the best zoos in America apparently and it didn't disappoint! It was pretty hard to get around, I kept getting lost eventhough I had a map but there were so many species of animals!
After 5 hrs of walking around, I had had enough and got back to the hostel where I uploaded my photos, updated my blog...the boring stuff that I hadn't had a chance to do before.
At 6:30pm the hostel put on a free dinner...Burritos! It was very nice although I felt really lonely. The guys that are here only want to chat up the skinny good looking girls and the girls have their own cliques. But I thought I would make the effort with it being my birthday so thought I would join them on going out later to a Hookah bar.
I got to the common room just before 9 and there was no one there. So I went outside for a smoke and thank the lord, 'Holland' came out to join me! She was a girl that I met at Hostel Cat and we had both been looking forward to meeting each other in San Diego. She was not impressed with San Diego at all but said she would come out with the hostel. Unfortunately the hostel people walked past us as we were talking and we only realised 5 mins later that they had left. So, after getting 2 sets of directions, then getting lost we arrived at Area 51 Hookah Lounge.
The people looked surprised to see us and straight away said we had to buy a Hookah (shisha), nobody really struck up conversation, it was kinda like they had to ask you where you came from, then that was it. The staff were a bit stuck up and seemed to get the guests to buy the hookahs and they smoked them. We just didnt get good vibes at all from them. I didn't mention my birthday as I don't think they would have even cared! But luckily me and Faye had a great night catching up and reminising! At 11.30pm, we resigned ourselves to the fact that we might as well just go back to the hostel (I was pretty tired after my long day anyway!).
