When we woke up, it was a bit hazy. We grabbed a light breakfast at a little French Bakery on Duval, Croissant's de France. We both got a Breakfast Sandwich with Egg, Cheese, and Sausage that came in a soft and airy bagutette and I also got a Custard Creme Beignet, which was delicious! Luckily, they switched out my bike, so we had to walk down and retrieve it. We headed back to catch a few early rays and snagged a few lounge chairs near the water. It was Race Week, so there were lots of awesome sailboats with colorful sails racing out in the distance.
For lunch, we grabbed Bad Boy Burrito. A small local joint just a few blocks from the hotel. I got the Fish Tacos, which came with rice and beans, and Justin got the Beef Burrito. Both had a nice, fresh, spicy flavor.
We went back to our room and got a call saying that our Seaplane Ride to the Dry Tortugas was cancelled since it was too dangerous to land out there. Bummer! Well, now what? We went to the Concierge and decided to book a Snorkel trip that was leaving in just a few hours. We snuck in a quick nap, and got ready to head out the door to the boat launch, when...oh no! It's raining. Snorkel trip cancelled.
Bad weather won't get us down! We decided to head to the Butterfly Conservatory, which was just a block away. You first went into a room that had a nice informative exhibit about butterflies, and then you went into the actual conservatory where there were 100's of different kinds of butterflies. It was such a neat experience!
Well, we still have dinner reservations at Rooftop Cafe at 8PM, so that's good news! We had the Lamb Chops to start which were melt in your mouth delicious. I had the Beef Short rib, which was like an extremely tender piece of pot roast over carrots and asparagus and mashed plantains. Heavenly! Justin got the Really Big Shrimp, which definitely lived up to it's name and came with risotto. For dessert, we got Key Lime Pie, and it was a good as we remembered. The fluffy meringue really sets it apart. So full! Back to our room for food coma.
