We woke up to another lovely day in Key West. We headed a few blocks north to Camille's for breakfast. This is a local joint with kitschy Key West decor. I had the Signature French Toast, which was french toast dipped in a nice batter with a hint of coconut, Godiva white chocolate sauce, and fresh sliced strawberries. It was quite good. Justin had the biscuits and gravy. Delicious homemade sausage gravy with fluffy biscuits? How can you go wrong?
We decided to rent bikes from Island Bike Shop, a local bike shop with a hippie vibe. They hooked us up with some beach cruisers and off we went! We took a little break at Smathers Beach and walked along the beach. We continued biking around the entire island and it was great to feel the breeze and enjoy the awesome weather! When we were done biking, we headed back to the hotel for some relaxing by the pool. The temperature was in the 80's, so the heated pool felt like bath water!
We got back on our bikes around 4:30 for Happy Hour at Alonzo's Oyster Bar down by the Marina. It's supposed to be the Best Happy Hour on the island because an entire section of the menu is half off, plus half off anything with alcohol in it! I love Key West! We got the following:
Tomato Mozzarella Salad: Nice portion of tomatoes, mozzarella, with a side of arugula. Dressing was flavorful.
1/2 pound of Stone Crab Claws: Since they were in season, we thought we'd give them a try. We got two large claws served with a horseradish mustard. While the meat was really firm, the flavor was definitely not sweet like you get with Dungeness crab.
1/2 pound of Spiced Peel and Eat Shrimp: Came with in a nice pickled cajun seasoning and cocktail sauce.
We walked around a bit and headed to Mallory Square to catch the Sunset Celebration. Since there was a cruise ship docked, there lots of people and performers. We stopped in at Sloppy Joe's for a little music and a drink. We went to head home only to find my bike had a flat tire! Boo! So, down Duval we went, and a slice of pizza on the way.
