Day 1 - Sydney to America

The first day of our trip was not so much one day as two. We'd stayed the weekend in Sydney and had a bit of a farewell dinner in Newtown on Saturday night. We flew out of Sydney on Sunday 13th December at 3pm, with Qantas on the A380. The flight was pretty good but neither of us slept much, despite being tired and moderately hung over from the night before. The inflight entertainment was extensive (and the in seat screens were huge); there were movies, TV shows, games, and I could even brush up on my (extremely limited/non existent) French skills with a language program.

We got into Los Angeles at 10am and were picked up by Trilby Beresford (one of 'the girls' from college, who is now living in LA doing screenwriting at the American Film Institute). Trilby took us for lunch at a diner, where we learned about the complexities of ordering food in America. I ordered a burger - pretty simple, right? Would you like cheese on that? Yes. What kind of cheese? Uh…just cheese? (At this point Tril came to my rescue and suggested Jack cheese) How would you like the burger cooked? Would you like chips or vegetables? What kind of sauce would you like with that? And to drink?

We spent the day in LA, and went shopping at the massive Beverley Center. We got to bed around 10pm - a 33 hour day!
