Another sunny hot lazy day spent in and purifier the water. I hire snorkel gear for the day and spent a good 1.5 hours underwater with Garth. It was MUCH better than Mauritius! The coral was brown and a bit boring, but occasionally there would be bright white or fluorescent purple coral which was hypnotic! There was coral in cabbage shapes, normal shaped coral and some bizarre octopus head-like coral and some spikey coral like the moon from Wallace and Gromits grand day out! (such a shame we don't have an underwater camera!!) there were SOOOO many different fish! Small electric blue fish, clown fish, squid, long eel like fish, medium sized amazing rainbow colours fish that gleamed as they swam past, black and white striped fish that swam right up close and even great big round brown fish with white pokadots and little fish living round it's head! Amazing! We can't wait to snorkel in Bali and see the great barrier reef! I would usually be scared of sharks (ESP as we are in the pacific) but because the water over the reef is quite shallow I felt quite safe!
I forgot to mention before that meal times are announced by the staff blowing a conch (v.large shell) which is pretty cool! Much like Lord of the Flies!
The afternoon was lazy and I read more of my book - Agatha Christie 'Postern of Fate'.
At 5.30 I tried sunset yoga for the first time. I didn't participate in the 'omming' but the stretching was challenging! I am not very flexible! Some bits I had to stop myself from laughing because our instructor Clare bent in some crazy ways compared to us!! It was however quite relaxing and afterwards I felt like I'd had a massage and was all loose!
It was our first sunset with no clouds which mean an amazing starry sky filled with milky way! Garth and I enjoyed a dusk wine/beer together!
After dinner was the weekly crab racing! People paid $4 and chose their crab from a bucket. A circular course was made with various obstacles (like cups of water submerged into the sand) and the bucket was released in the middle. After 3 rounds it was the final. One little boy was crying because his crab was out and one American teenage girl was begging her mum to bribe her crab back into the game! Lol.
Eventually an Aussie little boy won and he looked really shocked! It was so sweet because they handed him his winning crab and made him run around the outside of the course, which he did then threw the crab into his mind hand with a disgusted look! It was good fun!
We took some photos to try to capture the night sky, but they didn't do it justice!
