Woke up on my birthday morning to the beautiful eyes of my spouse. :) Who asked me wheather I wanted my present now or later. Well, now, of course! ;) I got a little book, full of so beautiful words written by my spouse. <3 And a choice: wheather I wanted to go to Akropolis or to Colosseum! :D Awesome present, since I've not been in either of them. After thinking a while I chose Akpolis&Greece!! =)
I've been in so many countries in Europe, but never in Greece and Italy, so can't wait to see the Akropolis&all the other places!
Then we we're off ro breakfast, and our jeep was waiting to take us to Muktinath, the holy temple and a village at the 3800 metres. The private jeep ride was expensive(!), but worth it, I'd say, since you don't have to sit in a 1cm place in a public jeep, which is way too full of people and you don't have to wait (in a worst case snenario 1-3hrs) before heading off! The drive was not for the ones with the fear of hights(!), but very beautiful sceneries, though a very bumpy ride, difficult to take pictures. But still managed to take some, especially from the edge to the gorge! Drive took about 45mins or so, the the Ranipauwa, Muktinath. Which was really small village and the path to the temple at the top starts right beside the jeep drop off point & the Bob Marley hotel (yes, that was the name). Clime slowly upwards, is my advice, since the 3800m makes you gasp for breath a lot sooner. But it was easy, wgen going slowly. The temple area itself isn't very big, and the main temple very small (which is in the cover picture of this blog post). Not so many hindus there, either, since it was off season. Though we encountered coupla else Finns on the way up, and they were coming down - which felt funny in a way. But we didn't revealed to them that we were from Finland as well.. ;)
We spent about 3 hrs in Muktinath, and then left back to Kagbeni. I would not recommend staying overnight in Muktinath, so crappy and dirty looked all the lodging choices atm. There were though 3(!) constructions going on for new hotels, so maybe in a few years the situation has changed and the quality will be better.
But we felt, that the 3hrs was enough. And because it started to rain, we were even more happy that we had booked a private jeep, so that we didn't have to wait for hours for a public jeep to fill uo and leave, instead we got to leave in a 5 mins or so.
The drive back took far more less time than the going up, "surprisingly". We changed clothes at our hotel and went for a dinner at the Green Kitchen, 'cause undoubtely it was the best restaurant in the village, I think. Today I took the chicken sizzler, which was very good&spicy this time too, and Niina took a Dal Bhat, which was good, too. When we finished, the clock was already late and wr had an early waking ahead of us, we left to the hotel and to bed. Tomorrow morning a wake up call at 6AM and leaving back to Jomsom riding with ponies and with 2 sherpas for our backpacks.
...So..this certainly was a different kind of birthday to me, but it was a very nice one. Especially because my beloved is by my side, and I get to share this all with her! :) <3
