Time goes by so fast - I can't believe I've been here for over two months already! It has been a really hard month for Australia with all the floodings in Queensland and Victoria no to mention Cyclone Yasi in Cairns. Fortunately New South Wales hasn't had any natural disasters and the weather has been hot and sunny. I still have a couple of weeks work in Sydney and then I go travelling for about 5 weeks - I haven't planned at all yet, but for the last 2 weeks of my trip I'll spend in Fiji. It will be a nice relaxing holiday before heading back to my usual life and work in Finland... I feel really sad that I have to leave, but I'll definately come back!
I have seen a lot of different and amazing places within the past month!I went to Blue Mountains for a day and although it was raining (quite heavily), the scenery was beautiful!! I really recommend going there for a day or even two if you have time. There are several different nature walks in Blue Mountains area, so you can easily spend your whole day just enjoying the views and numerous waterfalls.
I love wine so of course I wanted to go to Hunter Valley for a day and it really was worth it! It's a couple of hours drive to the Hunter Valley from Sydney and on the way we stopped at Walkabout Wildlife park. I saw my first ever live kangaroo there!! I also saw a wallaby, emu, koala and dingo! When we got to the Hunter Valley we visited three local wineries, a chocolate factory and a local brewery - not a bad way to spend a Saturday. :)
One of the best trips I've done was my visit to the Whitsundays! I went on a sailing trip with the 'Whitsundays Sailing Adventures'.The boat I was on was called 'Powerplay'. It was such a cool trip with an awesome group of people and we had perfect sunny weather. I'd never dived before, but on that trip I actually did 4 introduction dives!! I saw some spectacular marine life like nemos, clown fish, barracutta, Maori rass and many more. Words can't express how beautiful the Great Barrior Reef is, hopefully you'll get the idea from my pics. It was a 2 Day / 2 Night tour with diving, snorkelling, swimming, sunbathing, relaxing and eating beautiful fresh aussie food. I was really lucky I went to the Whitsundays on the 3rd week of January becuase a week and a half later it would've been impossible to travel there due to Cyclone Yasi.. Before and after the trip I spend some time in Airlie Beach, which is a small sailing town on the East Coast. The town of Airlie beach is located in the heart of Whitsundays.
A couple of weeks ago I did a 3 day tour from Sydney to Melbourne. There is so much to see in between these two big cities like the capital city of Canberra, Australia´s highest mountain Mt Kosciuszko, the small town called Lake Entrance by Australia's longest beach "90 mile beach" and Wilsons Promontory National Park where you can walk to the southern most part of the country. I took a tour with 'Adventure Tours Australia' and although it was a lot of travelling on the bus (the distances are quite long), we got to see and experience a lot. It was a great option for me, as I didn't have that much extra time and because I was travelling by myself. The group consisted of 12 people from all around the world.
There's a really nice place called Port Stephens it just 2,5 hour drive away from Sydney. I spent a weekend there a while ago and I'm planning to go there once again before flying to Fiji. It is one of those places you just immediately fall in love with and never want to leave. :) There's just so much you can do there! You can go sand boarding, horse riding, surfing, diving, swimming with dolphins etc. I stayed at Melaleuca Backpackers and absolutely loved it! The place in so peaceful and beautiful and the 'One Mile Beach' is just a short 5-minute-walk away. The people that run the property are really helpful, friendly and make you feel so welcome. Perfect!
