Today we were up early so we could be one of the first tours to get to Ephesus, which is huge area of ruins of an ancient city which was the most commercial city of the coastal region.
In the photos the remains are predominantly from the later roman period. It was amazing to see so much still standing and as a result it's easily determined what was used for what.
Because we were there early we were the first ones so we got to have photos on what would have been the main street in the city, before up to 10,000 tourists arrived. We got to see ancient city toilets, what would have been a Turkish bath, town library which is the big most prominent structure and two amphitheaters just to name a few things.
After being there for over 2 hrs in the heat and with little shade I was ready to hope back on the air conditioned bus to head to lunch at a local authentic little restaurant. Iv decided when I get a house I want a Turkish sitting area out the back, they are so cool you sit in the floor on cushioned area with low set tables, perfect for shisha. Food was great, authentic had pita with spinach cheese.
Then we jumped on the bus for a dreaded 5 hrs to Fethiye,I just crashed out most of the way.
Finally arrived to my favorite hotel so far probably because it was a little westernized but hey. Half our tour left us in the arvo to go on a boat as they were doing a different variation of a tour so I lost the girl is been staying with but gained a room completely to myself with a double bed! (yay)
After dinner our guide Baris took us out to experience the night life however fethiye is a popular place for the poms so when we walked down the main strip everyone said it was like being in little Britain,iv obviously never been to Britain so I couldn't comment but it was full of neons, tacky cocktail bars and lots of poms. We went to the zombie bar and started off with a shot each and this was how we proceeded during the night,to cut it short our tour group dominated the dance floor and everyone got pretty loose. I had to laugh, our tour guide loves MJ and he said he requested one if his songs and I said I hope it's dirty Diana so he requested it too. So here was the youngest and the oldest two on the tour rocking it out on the dance floor to dirty Diana, and us two being the only two who really knew the song...go figure,I should have been a teen in the 80's.
Food has been good definitely not going hungry with buffet dinner and breakfasts, haven't been eating leafy salad though really, ash has had really bad stomach cramps for the last few days our tour guide said not to eat lettuce cause its washed with the water.
Tomorrow we are off to a gorge and finally a beach!
Over and out xx
