Right! Well anyone who knows me,knows that i like to think I know best. Jokes! I DO know best. So I struggle to understand why I didn't just trust my gut instinct to get a cab at 5/5.30 this morning,I think I could have saved myself alot of money time and stress.
I met Erica, one of the girls who did sail Greece And was flying out at the same time as me where we were to be picked up by the shuttle at 6am. We got to the airport at 6.15 and we went inside international airport to line up. The line was long and when I finally got to the desk to check in it was probably about 6.40,only to informed I was supposed to check in at domestic because my connecting flight was in Athens. So Erica and I sprinted to domestic and once again lined up. As I was coming up to the desk the lady doing the checking in got up and left as the 3 people in front of me. We got told to go to the lady at the next desk who then told us to go to the airlines info booth off to the side to be all informed that we couldn't board as it has departed. There was nothing on the screen to say boarding or departed there never was,it was 5 to 7 and Erica who was catching a flight,at the exact same time, under the same airline company but different flight got through.
I wasn't happy,it was about 10 past 7 at this point,a lady from the info booth ended up calling a taxi and myself and the three other people jumped in and the taxi sped us to the ferry which left at 7.35.
We managed to catch it just in time and 4/5hrs later arrived in Athens at the time I was already supposed to be in Spain :(
We searched and asked travel agents if there were any flights available, but there wasn't much other then business class flights over 1000 euro. The three people I'd come on the ferry with were trying to get to barcelona and bus it to la tomatina. We were starting to get stuck as there were almost no options. I was texting dad at this point to see if he could find anything as well and suggested I put my name down for standby on any possible flight. There was one at 10 to 5 to Madrid so I went to the airlines booth and requested to go on standby for it in case someone missed it or couldn't make it and I could take their place. She started to take my details and I asked how much I was up for,350 was cheap compared to the 800 euro flight I was almost willing to pay for then she asked how I was going to pay. I was so surprised,I asked if I was actually on the flight and she said yes, easy as that! I was massively relieved that I'd managed to score a miracle flight and I went to let the other people know to put there names down for standby flights and ask around.
I was checking my luggage in while they were doing this but by the time I was done I couldn't see them anymore so I never found out of they got out of Athens that day.
I boarded my plane and was happy to be on my way to Madrid. I decided to can my hostel booking and stay with my cousin Millie and her friends as they had a spare bed.
I landed in Madrid and caught a taxi to where Millie was staying. Was great to see my little cousin as she left for the U.K in january and i haven't seen her since, besides it was relieving not to be by myself. I dumped my bags and we went to get some food. I was exhausted after a huge day and we had to be up early to go and try book bus tickets to Valencia so I headed to bed.
Over and out xx
