We left Hollywood at about 10:30 am to start making our way to Las Vegas. The trip is approximately 4 1/2 hours, wasn't sure what to expect.
The scenery was amazing, the mountains touched the skies, on some mountains you could see snow! It was warm in the car so seeing snow capped mountains was pretty strange. The road was lines with mountain ranges, they looked like pictures- not real at all. Some parts looked like Mars or the moon, desert with littles mountains popping up here and there. There weren't any birds in the sky we noticed which was a little strange.
We had been driving for a couple of hours when we came across an oasis! A shopping Oasis!! Can you believe in the middle of the desert there were factory outlets? So of course we parked the car and had lunch and a quick look.
Back on the woad we continued down the highway and the terrain had changed from mountain ranges to sand and cactus type plants. Then once again, out of nowhere came another shopping oasis! That's one thing they have plenty of here, outlet shopping, but we learned pretty quickly that if you had seen one you had seen them all - so it kind of got a bit boring after a while.
We hit the road again and an hour later we started to see the lights! There were interactive billboards lining the highway advertising the different hotels along the strip. The kids got super excited when they saw a billboard with a white tiger and The Mirage on it!!
We got to our hotel and walked to the lobby - wow!!!there was a massive fish aquarium that ran the length of the reception area, it was very impressive. The kids eyes and mouth were wide open trying to take everything in. We got the key to our room and started on our way to our room, the hotel was massive - we had to walk through the casino to get to the lifts. There was a glass domed roof with a rainforest style garden in the between the casino and the elevators. Our room was really nice, the view was lights, bright colourful lights, and the Linq Ferris wheel. It truly was Vegas!!
We went for a walk down the strip, there were people everywhere. The hotels were bright and colourful, every hotel felt like a different country - the Venetian and Caesars Palace was like Italy, Paris Hotel was like Paris, the Flamingo was bright and pink and colourful! The Bellaggio looked amazing and the MGM looked as it does in the pictures!!!
One thing we noticed almost immediately was that there was no smell, the homeless didn't beg everyone that walked past and the streets were clean. We also noticed that there were men on nearly every corner handing out cards with naked ladies on them advertising "Asscourts"! Typical for sin city I guess! There were people buying and drinking alcohol in the streets but not in a bad way, just walking down the street with a beer or a novelty alcoholic drink in a massive cup.
We were told that the volcano out the front of the Mirage explodes at 8 and 9 pm, we went and watched that, it was awesome! It looked and sounded like a real volcano! Jacob kept asking if the lava was real ... I kept saying yes!!
We got back to our room and realised we were peckish, it was 11:30 pm not sure what we could possibly get at that hour. Without much research we found that Denny's was open 24/7, we had a look and thought we'd have pancakes for supper. It was awesome!
We got back to our room and flaked it!!
