Kayaking to Vientianne was so much fun, there was a group of 10 with 2 to a kayak so each of us girls teamed up with one of the guys which made it so much easier! the rapids were grade 3, Fiona fell in twice - v funny! we also stopped for bbq along the river where we were able to climb the rocks and jump in - v high but so worth doing! We got to Vientianne in the evening and had a bit of trouble finding accomodation in our budget that had any space, we eventually found a room for 3 for 20, 000 kip each (1pound!), the beds were rock hard though lol but it was only for one night n we were fed up of carrying our backpacks!! we spent the next day wandering around Vientianne which is a very nice city, not at all like other Asian cities, its much calmer and quieter (like the rest of Laos). We got the overnight bus that evening to Pakse - it was double beds - me n fiona wre sharing but these beds were smaller than a single bed, it was so cramped, I was against the window and as we were on the top bunk the ceiling was really close - it was sooo claustrophic, i hated it n didnt sleep at all, eventually we stopped half way through the night n a few ppl got off the bus so i leapt into there empty bed - omg I had never appreciated space so much! From Pakse we headed straight down to Si Phan Don (4,000 Islands) - bus and boat. We found a great little set of bungalows on the Sunset View side of Don Det Island called Peace n Love, we each had our own bungalow for a pound a night with balconies and hammocks n a great little restaurant. its sooo chilled out there, i literally became horizontal - sleeping and reading and relaxing most of the time! we did hire bikes and go to a big waterfall which was pretty cool.
After Si Phan Don, Fiona and Neta both moved on to Cambodia wheras I have come back to Thailand for the last week of travelling. Got to Bangkok early yesterday morning, I like it here better this time - I think because I know my way around and I'm used to the heat and traffic of Asian cities. I met up with a guy I met in Halong Bay so we went out down Khoa San Rd last night which was lots of fun with lots of dancing. Today I went to the Chatuchak weekend market which is huge, got some clothes and then some souvenirs there n back in Khoa San Rd too. Tomorrow morning I head to Koh Chang for the remainder of the trip - topping up my tan before going home!!! xxx
