Ahh, I feel so relaxed after our 5 night break in Port Douglas. We're now back in Cairns for 1 night until we venture into the outback at 6am tommorrow! (Did someone say Wolf Creek!?)
Port Douglas was a really small holiday town with a lot of Australians come from around the country for a holiday. It only has about 6000people living there and is quite small. The main beach is the 4 Mile beach, and that's basically where we spent most of our days, ok, pretty much all of them. The weather was boiling, as usual, with clear skies the first few days and a few clouds the last two. We splashed out and hired sunbeds for the days with cushions, mmm, so comfy! I didn't go swimming though, there was a little stinger net but some you couldn't go swimming normally without a stinger suit. The life guard went into the water (with his on) and fished out about 5 jelly fish in one small bucket to show people on the beach, and some of one of the species that he caught can kill - very serious stuff!
There weren't many shops there, some touristy ones, but they had a supermarket and lots of restaurants and smoothie shops. I managed to get part of your birthday present K! Dad will like it too!
Yesterday we'd both had too much of the sun, and quite frankly we're both getting too brown so we just decided to go read our books somewhere. We went to the look out point at the end of the street. It was so nice there! I took a lot of arty photos that I'll upload later. They had set up for a wedding there, it was so nice! They had a black and gold theme and the Isle lead up to the sea. I saw loads of boats returning from the reef aswell.
Last night we decided to go out for a meal. So we chose a fairly posh restaurant called Michael Angelos. I ordered a cheese and ham pizza and Becky had to stick with a really plain and boring salad because she's had to cut wheat and gluten out completely again . Anyway, her salad was pretty rubbish, and when my pizza came it smelled of garlic and had no ham, so I told the waitress I ordered ham and she was like oh, I didn't hear you. After a while she said, I'll go get you some. It turns out she gave me a garlic pizza according to the bill, they only charged me $10.90 (about 4.30) but it really wasn't that great, and we'd been looking forward to that meal all week! So afterwards we went to Wendys Ice cream shopa and had THE most amazing ice creams ever!
The other day when we were sunbathing I realised everyone was looking out into the sea. So I asked Becky what they were looking at and she didn't know either, so we kept looking around and about 5 seconds later a dolphin lept out of the water about 8ft in the air and dived back down! It was pretty close to the shore aswell! It was so cool seeing dolphins in the wild again, shame about the stupid jellyfish, the water here is so much warmer than in southern New Zealand when we saw them before!
Our hostel was really nice - Parrotfish Lodge. We met some nice people there and had a really nice meal from the nice chef - everything was so nice! ha. We paid to have our own room with ensuite and fridge. It had a pool and a nice bar and everything. Although it needed one cos all the bars along the main street emptied at about 10pm! Except the Iron Bar which kept it's customers a bit later with Cane Toad Racing! Lol.
Anyway, I probably won't beable to write for a while since we're venturing away from civilisation, so I will update my blog when I next can.
