The adventures of Manny and Melly
Well we made it to Thailand last night after an 8 1/2 hour plane ride. It was very turbulent. I nearly killed myself trying to use the toilet at the back of the plane. We arrived on Chinese New Year and needless to say it was very busy. We had quite a hard time getting accomodations for the night. We ended up finding a room and will probably keep it for another night. We are planning on taking a tour to some Buddhist temples and the "floating market". I can't believe how cheap it is here!! I already love this place. I haven't quite gotten used to the spray nozzle things that they use in place of toilet paper but I suppose practice makes perfect. Lots of pollution, dogs and mayhem here but I'll take this any day over Australia. It's actually quite nice to experience something so different from home.
Australia just wasn't what we expected it would be. We rented a big gas guzzling station wagon from Budget with the expectations of sleeping in it. Well that got old pretty quick. It was so hot that we had to roll the windows down and then that of course meant that we would be eaten alive by bugs. We couldn't find any place to camp that wasn't super crowded. It was very very expensive and the people were some of the rudest that I've ever encountered. We misread a parking sign and got our car towed and got a $120 parking ticket on top of that. This was just the icing on the cake. Put all of these things together combined with horrible surfing and maybe you can begin to understand why we left. I know that each place speaks differently to everyone and Australia just wasn't for us. I do however hope to go to the west coast, which is very desolate, for surfing one day.
Mom, I haven't put up any more pictures because we didn't really take anymore after I posted the last ones. What is this horny toad that you speak of?? I think I may know but I didn't see any. I did see a couple of kangaroos though and a poisonous red back spider. So can you believe that I didn't like Australia?? I can't.
I'll write more later. I'm ready for some phad thai and a thai iced tea.
