Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
We got up early this morning (6am) to load the kayaks with tea and coffee and paddle again around the island. We saw a couple of monkeys this time and we stopped for our tea break half way round- and we were lucky to be in the kayak with James, a massively tall strong man who did most of the paddling for us! After breakfast we set off back to land and songthaewed to the jungle huts. These were incredible treehouses high up in the trees, we got the highest one which had a cute little balcony, and we had to climb up 3 flights of stairs to reach it. The room itself was really simple but had brilliant views into the treetops, and windows all the way round. The bathroom had a pebble floor and was just a corner of the room, very open! Plenty of bats and geckos lived up there with us and we could hear monkeys too. In the afternoon we went tubing on rubber rings down a river, which was fun although the water level was so low it was pretty slow. We enjoyed going over the mini rapids though, and stopped at a little riverside cafe where two really cute furry gibbons lived. We stroked the quiet one which hung off the Thai people, but the other was much more playful and enjoyed running at us and biting one of our guides who was playing with it! We then drove to another waterfall where we saw some flying lizards which landed on our backs, then to a buddhist temple in a cave which was beautiful. The monk showed us around and we read some fortunes and peered through a glass lid into the coffin of the man who built the temple who died 9 years ago! Outside were lots of funny looking monkeys who were very friendly and we fed them bananas. Back at the treehouses we spent the evening playing card games and table tennis, before retiring to our trees and listening to the strange sounds geckos make at night.
