Started off cloudy but cleared up to become a brilliantly hot and sunny day. Went back to Arlington and got to walk around this time. Saw the Kennedy graves and the wreath laying ceremony at the site for the Uknown Soldier. There is one South African buried here but have no idea who he is or where he is buried in this massive cemetery.
Then went walking around the National Mall. Saw several of the memorials for the various wars and Martin Luther King jnr. Went into the Holocaust Musuem. Could not see the permanent exhibits but still a very touching experience, even more than when I went to mauthauzen camp in Austria where people were "exterminated".
The Smithsonian art museums were a waste of time, including the ones with a South African artist. The Crime and Punishment museum was very cool! Original artifacts from famous criminals and law enforcement agents and prisons amongst other things. Again, I did not spend enough time here. Wanted to go to the Spy Musuem but decided that $20 was not worth the entrance fee. Crime museum entrance was free with the hop on hop off bus ticket. Took the metro back to the hotel for $2.70 from the Metro Centre
