Took it a bit easier since there was no rush for busses etc. Spent the morning going around to buy toiletries like shaving foam. This is my second last day in the USA and I am not sure how easy and expensive it will be to get what I want in Asia.
In the afternoon, I managed to watch the semi final race of the Louis Vuitton Cup. It is an international sail boat race with the Americas Cup soon thereafter. There is an entire pier dedicated to this with areas for spectators to watch, buy stuff, live TV broadcasts, etc. I have seen a few of the boats in the bay practicing in the previous days. They are pretty hi-tech and I think they make golf look like a cheap sport. One of the new things in this sport is foiling, where both the hulls literally lift out of the water onto these thin strips allowing it to go faster but the boat becomes very unstable if not correctly done. I have seen several boats do it. The boats can exceed 50mph. This race was between Italy and Sweden. Italy won and I was standing close to the finish line although the race was far from a close photo finish. Definitely an interesting sport.
I bought a 7 day passport for $28 on the very first day which allows me unlimited rides on any bus, cable car or street car. There is a difference between cable cars and street cars. Street cars are closed and ruse the overhead power lines. Cable cars are the ones where you can hang out on a platform and use a cable in a warehouse which pulls it.
For supper, I went to the Mission District using the bus. It is a Latino quarter which is mostly residential but has lots of South American shops and is great for good cheap Mexican food. I also ate a couple of times in the Italian District and had awesome pizza and pasta, although a lot more pricey.
