Our first day in London we bought tickets for the hop-on and hop-off bus so we could get a feel for the city's layout and get an overview of what we wanted to do. We took a tour through the Tower of London under the direction of a terrific guide who reminded me of John Goodman in both looks and demeanor. He was full of fun and fascinating factoids regarding British life and history. He had the gift of bringing it all to life which made the tour both unique and special.
That night we met Eric and Philippa in the theatre district for a bite before seeing Once at the Phoenix Theatre. Mike and I pulled up in an typically English black cab and saw them waiting for us. Eric was in a dark blue suit and Philippa in a black and white print dress....they looked very much the young British couple. One of the pleasures of having your children grow up is to occasionally view them as others probably see them; it made me smile. Once is an eight tony award winning musical set in Ireland. It was a wonderful performance and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. After the play we went to an Italian restaurant they had discovered earlier and shared Italian tapas including lobster risotto and fresh burrata with sun dried tomatoes. The restaurant was full of energy, a friendly vibe and wonderful food. Such a great evening! We said our goodbyes, never my favorite part, but so happy we were able to spend two evenings with them in the royal city!
