First Day in India Mon 22:31 I tried not to have too many preconceptions before I came. But today alone has just been totally mindblowing.

Arrived at the hotel fine, transferred from the airport as planned etc. The hotel is nice, probably nicer than expected. But the travel books said how the area is ropey and it certainly is that! Cows walking down the road, weaving between stalls, holes and crazy rickshaw drivers, it's not for the faint-hearted! I hadn't thought too much about what to expect from the people, but in hindsight the warnings you hear must be heeded. The conns about hotels and travel touts are very real, and some more inventive ones too. Fortunately I've dodged the bullet so far - it will be good to get out of Delhi on Wednesday to see other parts of india, but it will also be good to come back in a few weeks when I've aclimatised.
All is well, I am finialising my rail transport around india tomorrow with the hotel's travel agent, planning to head to Jaipur early Wednesday. It's certainly interesting but also great to be here! Can only get more exciting...
