Hello!
Just a quick entry to let you know what we've been up to, not been a lot until today really! So we last wrote in Nelson, so the next day we caught the ferry from Picton to Wellington. The crossing was smooth so we were very lucky, though I had seasickness tablets anyway which make you sleepy so I slept most of the way!
Then we arrived in Wellington, far too many cars for our liking, we've got used to empty roads! They even had a real motorway in Wellington, the first one so far!
The next day we went to Te Papa Museum for a bit in the morning and went to the harbour front, just for a wander really. Then in the afternoon did a mountain/forest walk with views over Wellington Harbour which was quite nice. Then we drove to Taihape, our stop point before getting to Taupo.
The scenery driving the next day to taupo was nice, quite like Wales in the Brecon Beacons, so we liked it. When we arrived in Taupo we went to see Huka Falls, which were amazing, so much water! The walk was nice along the river, quite hilly in places, so we enjoyed a relax in the thermal pool on the way back. It's so cool how hot it is coming out the ground!
Then yesterday the weather was a bit chilly and windy so we just went round the town centre.
Then today we went to a place called the Honey Hive which had a bee hive with clear sides so you could see them all which was very cool. Did you know that a worker bee lived 4-6 weeks in the summer and in its life will make half a tea spoon of honey? Those little bees work very hard to give us a whole jar!
Then this afternoon we may have done a skydive!!!! It was 15000feet, over Lake Taupo and it was a lovely clear day so we could see all the volcanoes covered in snow as we came down which was very cool. The freefall was 1 minute which was great, we both loved it! Stu went first then I was last to leave the plane, so I got to see Stu land from above and he saw me come into land. My guy let me have a "fly" too, so I was controlling the parachute, hehe did some turns, it was cool but too many turns made me feel sick - I've become very pathetic it seems with motion sickness!
Tomorrow we're doing the Tongariro Crossing, so that should be good, though our pick up is 06.20am.
Hope you are all well, lots of love Vicky (and Stu) x x x x x
