Hello!
I've lost track of the days so I'll start with the one after the whales, whatever that was! Stu woke up a bit poorly so we just got up and went for a walk along the coast line then drove to Abel Tasman. It rained a lot of the way there so we were unsure whether the weather was going to be good for the walking and kayaking we had planned but turned out it was lovely!
So we stayed at a lovely site right near the beach, we got up the first day and went for a walk from our site along the Abel Tasman Track. It's really lovely coast line with golden beaches, blue waters and rainforest type walking, very lovely. Then yesterday we hired a double kayak and went kayaking along where we had walked. It was very good fun for the first part, we wnet out to some islands where there was a seal colony so saw some New Zealand fur seals, they were very nice laying in the sun! Then we paddled over to the mainland again and landed on a beach and had our lunch, on our very own beach. The paddle across was a bit tough as there was a strong wind to our side so Stu had to position the kayak at the right angle so we didn't get knocked over by the waves, which he managed very well and we made it fnie! We then started the paddle back to the beach we started on which was the hardest kayak of our lives! The wind was amazingly strong and at times we felt like we weren't going forwards at all, but we made it back in the end for a nice cup of tea!
Today we were going to walk but Stu is still poorly with a nasty cold so we decided to have a relaxing day, stoping in Kaiteriteri along the coast for a cup of tea and cake before heading to Nelson, our stop off point before driving to catch the ferry to North Island tomorrow. We went to the cinema this afternoon and saw The Hangover which was very funny!
Taking ferry tomorrow and will be in Wellington tomorrow night.
So this is our last report from South Island, will be in touch again from the North!
Hope you are all well, thinking of you all. Love Vicky (and Stu) x x x
