Hello!
Thank you all for your messages. We are in New Zealand now and having a great time. Though I am still sea sick, I don't know why but when I sit still I feel like I am on waves, not fun! I'm going to get my rant done at the statrt of this blog and then tell you the good stuff - I left my hat on the plane, very sad, so no more photos with that.
And then we got to the campervan place and they hadn't given us the one we asked for with flowers on, I was very sad, but especially because they'd given us a horrible one insetad which was called pumpkin and had Halloween stuff on it which was really scary. So we complained cos it was an automatic anyway and they gave us a different one which is brown patterned and it is a lot nicer than pumpkin so that is good and I'm getting over the fact it doens't have flowers, mainly by saying I'll buy myself one one day and paint flowers in it!
Ok, so we arrived in New Zealand and satyed in a very nice hostel which was an old prison, though it was a bit chilly upon arrival, -2 degrees. We loooked round Christchurch and decided to buy some jumpers and me some warmer pyjamas! We then picked up the van and went towards Akaroa. We were behind schedule because of the late pick up of the campervan having asked to have a different one to the first one they offered us. This meant we got to Akaroa on Tue night and left Wed morning, but it was very ncie views, near the beach and with mountains.
We drove from Akaroa to near a place called Geraldine, we had planned to stay in Peel Forest but the site was closed so we drove to one in a place called Waihi Gorge, which was a basic site on a river. We went for a walk which was very nice, though uit was quite foggy, well, we were in a cloud actually I think, but the walk was good, saw a man herding sheep which was exciting! There are very big herds of sheep here, and cows and deer and alpacas.
Then we got up from there this morning adn drove to the lakes (Tekapo and Pukiti I think) but we couldnt' see very much cos it was cloudy again. But on the way we saw some lovely snow cvered mountains which were beautiful! Then we drove back to the coast and stopped at a place callee Moeraki and went for a cup of tea and a walk. It was a very nice place, by the sea with mountains and you could see snow capped ones in the far background and we saw two seals on the beach.
We decided not to stay in Moeraki and come to Dunedin to try to make it so that more of our travelling is taking place i the dark rather than daytime. So here we are, at a lovely site with a power so we can have a light and heater on in the van which is great! We are getting on well with the campervan, which is called Tapa, and finding driving it good too. It doens't feel too wide but it is quite long. It is even cooler than I thought it would be, I love campervanning!
We can't put photos on this computer but will try to upload some at the next internet place.
Plan from here is to go to Milford Sound, oh if you've heard about the earthquake, don't worry, all fine, no one hurt, we didn't feel it! Then from there to Queenstown and then see from there as there has been bad weather on the west coast which may mean we have to change the route we takle avoiding that road. But we'll see, it may be fine by the time we get there.
Hope all is well with everyone else!
Lots of love Vicky (and Stu) x x x x
