Today we discovered the joys of Tuk-tuks!!! Whilst attempting to leave our hotel and walk to Bangkoks grand palace we quickly discovered that it may be easier to seek some form of transport as we had been walking for half an hour and ended up back where we begun! As we stood about scratching ours heads wondering how this happened we where approached by a charming man saying he would take us around the sites of Bangkok in his Tuk-tuk for 'very good price!' The tuk-tuk is basically a motorbike with a carriage type enclosure built over the back wheel. This one looked like Xibit or Tim Westwood had been round to pimp his ride with flashing lights and flashy paint work! Anyway after the expensive Coronas from the previous evening please forgive me for being a little dubious of this guys claims of showing us the sights of Bangkok for very good price......20 baht (40p) each you say? Ok let's go! The 1st site we seen was some wat/temple filled with different types of buddahs including a massive one in the centre! Anna always one to be seen to be down with the kids decided to plank infront of said buddah whilst I took a photo(see above photo). This gross act of disrespect of the Thais buddhist culture we will later discover could have ended in a lengthy visit to the Bangkok Hilton(prison) for Anna! During the rest of the day we discover why the tuk-tuk was only 20 baht each as he attempts to take us to various tailors and jewellery stores! Although it's a scam and we know it we aren't forced to buy anything and really enjoy just flying about the city in the back of his tuk-tuk! We draw the line at being taken to a tourist office and get dropped off at the MBK! The MBK is about 50 times the size the Overgate and as Anna's eyes light up a world of pain opens up for me! I would rather not talk about the next few hours as it's still too painful for me to discuss! :-(
