Finally arrived in Bangkok!!! The flight was hell. Nearly 20 hours jammed in a middle seat betwenn Annabelle and some NZ girl, both sleeping away happily while i sit wide awake trying to understand a word of what Jeff Bridges is trying to say in the lead role(couldn't even make out his name) in True Grit! Once we landed, negotiated the visa entry and grabbed our bags i was beggining to question my desire to be undertaking this - what Anna keeps calling it - adventure! This thought was quickly compounded when we exited the heavily air conditioned (i hadn't realised this over the previous 45mins thinking only that it isn't as hot as i expected it to be here) terminal building to the underground taxi rank and was immediately as sweaty as i usually am after an hour of 5-a-sides....alot! I used to think i was quite the player but was informed by my friend one night in the pub that the reason i could beat so many players was nothing to do with my dribbling skills but because oppostion players avoided tackling me for fear of coming away with a face full of my excess perspiration! Anyway i digress! During the first 15 mins of the taxi ride from the airport to Bangkok city centre i kept pointing out interesting sites to Anna and each time was met with a silent nod of the head. She had turned white and looked a little like a rabbit caught in the headlights! The only conclusions i could come to was that she too was either questioning our stupidity at getting ourself into this situation or was very frightened at the fact our taxi driver was driving at stupid-a-mile an hour whilst weaving over 4 lanes of busy traffic! The rest of the taxi journey was just as interesting as we slowly passed through the gridlocked streets of inner city Bangkok....did a moped just go past us with a whole family on it? Wait there was 5 on that one! There can only be one conclusion drawn at this latest developement.....these people are crazy and i want to go home! At this point considered asking Anna if we make it to the hotel alive can we check flights home for tomorrow and go become red coats at Butlins for the summer! We make it to hotel and after a shower decide to head to the bar because i definitely need a drink. My spirits are lifted and begin to think we might just survive Bangkok when perusing the bar menu they have Corona and its only 3 Baht (6p)! 6 Coronas later i ask for the bill and am distraught to find that the comma was in the wrong place on the menu and its actually 300 Baht (£6) a bottle.........back to wanting to become a Butlins red coat!
