Our next stop was Jodhpur, also known as the blue city, for the blue colour a lot of the buildings in the old city are painted. The highlight of Jodhpur is the impressive hilltop Megrangarh Fort which has some spectacular views of the city. We did an audio-guided tour of the fort which was actually pretty interesting. Afterward, our tour guide took us to a place for some really good lassis (almost like a milkshake, but without ice cream) and kuchuris (kind of like samosas). We then had a free afternoon to walk around the markets. Jodhpur has a great spice market and we ended up buying some...you'll have to come over once we get home for chicken tikka and masala (Indian chai) tea. That afternoon we went to Umaid Bhawan palace which is the newest "palace" in the world. Construction began in 1929, by the Maharaja of Jodhpur during a drought as a make work project to help stimulate the local economy..."Jodhpur's Economic Action Plan"? That night we went out for dinner at a newer, trendy restaurant called "On The Rocks" which had really good food. Our next stop is Jaisalmer, a desert town close to the border with Pakistan.
