We left Jodphur on a public sleeper bus. Again transportation in India is quite the sport!! We made it to Jaisalmer slightly jostled but safe! Jaisalmer is a desert city with modern windmills all around and old fashioned houses. Actually people still live in the fort in the city. This is the only one of it's kind in India. The city is great to wander around while only getting slightly hassled to buy goods! We were lucky enough to go out to the Thar desert for a night. We rode camels out to the camp while crossing the Sam (sand) dunes. It wasn't quite as big as we had thought it would be but the camel ride was really cool. Someone may have got a small saddle sore when we were riding (we won't name who). We camped in the desert that night and wow does it get cold. Luckily the camp had lots of warm blankets and a cozy tent for us. The next morning we headed back to Jaisalmer. Nihal, the guide from the camel safari was telling us about the village he lives in...they have no power or running water. There is a store in Jaisalmer that sells the goods the ladies in his village make. He agreed to take us to the shop to see some of their work. They had some gorgeous tapestries and sewing work. We were not going to buy but somehow the Indian sales pressure tactic worked and we bought a bed cover and some pillow covers. I sure hope the guy was truthful that it was made by the villagers and not from a factory but who is to know for sure. We also hope it makes it home as we trusted them to ship it for us!
Our time in India is winding down only a few more places to go before we head into Nepal.
