God is American ... don't you forget it.
hi
havent written in a couple days but ive been busy, darn it. my last day\night in positano was pretty near perfect. i woke up early and descended the thousand steps it takes to get to the beach and set myself up with a lounge chair and umbrella. after a few hours of sun and a couple of bacardi breezers, i headed out for another paddle in the kayak. i took out the faster one this time but didnt go as far because it was a bit tippy. after tha ti had lunch again on the beach and laid around all day long, im guessing about 10 hours. i swam and sat and swam and sat. not bad. before sunset a bunch of us from the hostel decided to go to the beach for a swim, and so we did. i had just gotten out of the shower so i didnt jump in but i went for the walk. later, we all went out to dinner around 10 oclock pm at this restraunt even further up the mountain than the hostel, which, if you havnt been following, is totally amazing. the view from the restaurant is really nice. its a local place with cheap food, free appatizers and lemoncello. there were about 5 aussies, one brit, one canadian, and three americans. i had ghnocci sorrentina, still not better that the five cheese gnhocci from france last summer. we stayed until closing and i tried to keep up with the conversation, dominated by the aussies (impossible to understand...i needed subtitles). the next morning three girls happend to be traveling to rome the same exact time so we banded together and headed for the bus stop. we took the bus from positano to sorrento, and the train from sorrento to naples and then finally the train from naples to rome. we walked to the treve fountain and split there. they were nice, from california, and i went to find uncle art at the spanish steps. we both arrived on time but didnt see each other for about an hour. we were both sitting there like morons. but hey, it was crouded. we went to the keates\shelly museum next to the steps and then went to the treve fountain and some other stuff too which i forget right now. had lunch, had dinner. went to the place we are staying which is actually somones house that rents out their spare apartment. these late dinners and gelato are making me a fattie.
this morning, still in rome, went to modern art museum and visited the vatican. im taking pictures of skulls...being really metal and all. they have this stuff called blood orange juice which is orange juice but red. nice. and again, really metal. um...sorry this posting is a bit boron, ill make up for it next time. oh, i had my fisrt pistachio gelato today. it wasnt bad. quite good. lets see, what else.
oh yea, yesterday, at the hostel in positano, at the bookswap, i got a book by anthony bourdain and was extatic. i didnt leave a book in return which i suppose is bad karma or something but i ended up finishing the latest nick hornby book "long way down" on the train and gave it to one of the girls i went to rome with. also, bam, before i left, this girl gave me ANOTHER nick horby book, fever pitch, because she had too many books in her pack. i was pretty stoked, and she didnt even want anything for it. im a lucky fart. rome is cool, i was a bit overwhelmed having traveled for 5 hours, early in the am, with no food, no water, no sleep, no directions, etc. and when i got out of the station i couldnt stop rubbing my eyes from the pollution, but once i got settled in i started to like it much better. the climate in rome is really sweet, it feels like socal. i havnt see any moped fatalities as of yet but im keeping my eyes open. everytime i hear "wee-wah wee-wah" and look up to see an ambulance speeding by, i think to meself, " ah, another roadside, scooter fatality" i stopped keeping count around ten. i saw a Hummer yesterday...it looked severely out of place amongst all the Smartcars and minis and those three-wheeled whatchamacallits that are speeding around everywhere hauling paintcans and broomsticks and s***. alrite, im all done for now. love. love.
