So, after being rudely awoken at 5am and failing to get back to sleep I decided to start the morning off by walking up and down the hallway at 7am stomping my feet. Childish I know, but it made me feel better.
After that we headed off to the Aratiatia Rapids again to see the floodgates open from the other view point. We got some good photos and watched as the rapids took full effect then jumped in the van and drove round to the start of the Huka Falls walk.
It was a lovely day and the sun was blazing making it a little uncomfortable walking as it was quite a lot of uphill and downhill walking but it was lovely to walk along side the river - as we got closer you could hear the Falls too which was very exciting!
There were a few other people out on the walk too at that time and one group that we encountered were the people from the bar the night before that we were playing pool against. We chatted to them for a bit then arrived at the falls. It was huge and funny to think that we had seen the floodgates open only a couple of hours later at the dam.
We walked back and had a bit of lunch before driving back into Taupo. We had the idea of hiring kayaks again but by the time we got there we thought the weather was looking a bit funny and the wind was picking up so decided against on this occasion as the walk had been pretty energetic anyway. We did however, drive past a Crazy golf place so stopped in there to have a round - Chris beat me but only because I well and truly messed up on one hole in particular taking 11 times to pot the bloody thing! I had it in the bag until then!! Grrrr!
Back to Finns bar for some more food and a few more games of pool before we headed out to some of the other bars around the town too for a few drinks before heading back to the hostel. Here's hoping tonight is a little bit quieter…
