Stephen's Travels!
Hi All.
Well I have been to many places since I last reported.
The Great Ocean Rd was really spectacular and was definately worth the 3 day drive. We also spotted koalas, they were really cute and placid...We later found out that they are permenantly doped because they get wrecked eating Eucaliptus leafs all day long (they are intoxicating to koalas)
We arrived in Melbourne and found our way to Nicoles house. Nicole was another girl from the India trip that kindly offerd to put me and mum up in her familys home for the few days that we were in Melbourne. It was good to have some home comforts...just little things like a cooked meal were great and I ate all my greens too!
Whilst in Melbourne it seemed compulsery to take a trip to Ramsey Street after so many years of Neighbours viewing. It was good fun and there was no mistaking where we were off to in our minibus...check out the photos coming soon!
We also went to an AFL football match on our final day. It was really goog supposed to be like Gailic football but basically it was a mixture of footy, rugby and vaully ball. Sounds odd but it was good.
They were perfect hosts and looked after us brilliantly. Thanks Nicole and family again!
Virgin blue is the low cost airline out here its like our easyjet. We took a flight to sydney from Melbourne that took about an hour or so. Australia is so big (the same size as the whole of Europe) and it takes forever to drive from place to place so the planes are very handy.
Sydney is a great city, although expensive. I was taken back by the Opera house and the Harbour Bridge. The buildings are massive and the influence is extreemly British. Lots of the same street names and they have our queen on there bank notes! We did a city tour and saw alot of the city that way. I experienced a Ballet at the Opera House. It was really good actually. Mum wanted to see something there and im glad we did.
Our final day in Sydney was spent doing a tour of the BlueMountains. It was a great day and a perfect final one with mum. We started out early at about 8.00am. Our guide was called Patrick and he was really good at his job,he knew his stuff. There were only 4 of us on the trip and that was ideal. It was like our own tour.
We started at a wildlife sanctury that was brilliant. It was mainly Australian animals. I saw my first Kangaroo and fed lots of them whilst there. We saw a Tazmanian Devil..I didn't know that thet actually existed. It was a weird little thing. After the sanctury we set of for the Blue Mountains... They were beautiful but not actually blue..Its the Eucaliptus oil rising in the heat and reflecting on the mountains. It was beautiful and whilst there we went on the steepest railway in ithe world.
It was a sunny day and a trip to a winery and vinyards was next on the agenda. It was great to sample and see how its done. The wine is soooooooo good here in Oz.
We ended the day by taking a boat back to Sydney harbour where we saw the harbour bridge and the opera house at night...an amazing view!
On Friday Mum went back to England and myself up to Byron Bay to meet up with Sophie and Steph (2 of my best mates from India)We spent 2 days having a ball and catching up.This was my first experience sleeping in a hostel dorm..I haven't had to do it because room prices in Asia are sooooo cheap,Unfortunately the same can't be said about Australia..Its so expensive some things even more so than at home. It was Ok if not a little smelly and cramped(12 beds in a room) The place was not the best example I dont think. The girls had a Cockroach infestation in their room and there was a rat and a lot of cobwebs in mine! The staff were also nob heads and generaly rude.
I couldn't move on before meeting up with Jane and Derris. Jane used to work with me at Toni & Guy and after over 12 months of travelling Australia with her fella Derris they have decided to stay in Byron bay and have been granted residency. It was so good to catch up and see them. Thanks guys, had a good time seeing you!
Me and the girls then headed up to Surfers Paridise. There is not alot there but its where all the Theme parks are in Australia and you all know me ;) We went to one called "Dream world"They had some massive rides and it was a good day.I also heald a Koala.Well Cute!
Thismorning was an early start as we headed to Brisbane...Sophie has family here that have so kindly offered to put us up for a couple of weeks. They have borrowed a massive camper for me to sleep in...Its massive and really luxury. They are enjoying having us here and its nice to be in a home for a while. There is so much still to do and i will fill you all in soon! Lots of love :)
