Steph's Asia Trip
Back in KL - it's nice to be here again - wouldn't say it feels like home, but it's comforting to be somewhere familiar. Staying in a differnt part of town this time - more central and near to the Golden Triangle.
Arrived yesterday afternoon after a peacful 3 hour bus journey from Kuala Lipis. Was found by a hostel tout at the bus stop who brought me to this hostel and after having a look around I decided to stay. This is the best hostel i've stayed at so far in terms of atmosphere and facilities. It even has a kitchen area and a fridge!!!! (my insulin is liking the fridge instead of iced water!) And the only room available was a large double with a huge window and a view of the KL tower - which looks very pretty at night.
Last night I went out to an Italian restaurant, in a grand colonial english building, run by chinese Malaysians. Just to make things even more confusing, it was called the coconut house! had a lovely meal consisting of non-poisonous carbonara followed by hazelnut pudding with chocolate sauce. It was sooooooooooo nice, especially after all the rubbish food I've had recently. So nice in fact, that i phoned my Dad to tell him so I could re-live the experience!! Had a great nights sleep and am totally recovered from my stomach bug.
Today I went shopping in the golden triangle (expensive bit of town with lots of skyscrapers and shopping malls). Was looking for a new camera (to replace the dropped one), a new rucksack (to replace the skanky one I have which is covered in rubbish and also my DEET leaked all over it) and also to get a conservative top for temples (my one was a whitewrap over one which is now salmon pink in places - quite disgusting - never bring anything white traveling - you can never get it white again).
I chose the camera and it's cheaper to get it here than bangkok - no duty here, bought a new ruck sack, but failed on the top. However, did make some progress because I banished the old one to the bin - I don't really know why i've been carrying it around - it's too gross to wear!! That'll save an extra 100g in my back pack!!
had a lovely dinner again - curry and naan bread. mmmmmmmmmmmmm......................
Off to Melaka tomorrow for a couple of days and the nice man at the hostel says he'll keep my luggage safe for free and reserve me a room for when i get back. And the hostel is conveniently situated opposite the bus station (but on another road so i can't hear or see the buses). Lots of travelers have said that Melaka is very nice - it's got lots of history.
So i'm once again having a very nice time - now that evil stomach bug has gone.
Oh!!! and the hostel has HOT SHOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm on a hot shower roll at the moment!! Yeah Baby!
