Today I visited the Palace of Versaille. Another rainy day - took advantage of the thermals in my backpack and dressed to prevent freezing - sooo glad that we went shopping for thermals mum! I don't think I would have been able to wander around the gardens as long as I did without them.
What an amazing place. I've always had an interest in history (many thanks to my Pa) and delved right in. The Palace and Gardens were amazing even in the rain. Here was my chance to walk in the footsteps of Marie Antoinette. Despite many women dreaming of becoming a royal (cue Princess Mary from Tassie) I definately wouldn't have cut it as a royal female back in the 16/17/18th century - one day of wandering around aimlessly was enough - no wonder the women of the day were horrible gossips - thats all they could be!
The Castle was gorgeously over decorated with gold trimmings and artwork the size of many apartments! The gardens were the highlight - take a step back into the secret garden (you know the book we all read as kids and used as the inspiration for many of our tree houses..), you never know what is behind the next hedge. Picture the water fountain feature with the lights, music ect at the Crown Casino in Melbourne and then add magnificant gardens, a palace, classical music and fountains of water timed perfectly with the music - you are now in the Gardens of Versaille.
The macaron class is first up tomorrow morning - if the weathers good i'll be headed out to Moet and Mercer in Epernay to have a few champers after the course.
Au revoir
