EXTENSION OF MY HOMESTAY AND SPANISH COURSE IN AREQUIPA
During my second week I decided to extend my stay in Arequipa. Main reason…. I love my host family! All of them are sooo nice to me and there are spoiling me with the nicest and most delicious food and fruit juices every day. The only downside….I have put on 3 kilos since I have arrived in Peru and it is increasing.
Last Saturday, 27.10.10 Vicky, Randy and Kevin invited me to a very nice and fancy restaurant nearby where we were sitting outside in a lovely garden with a tiny little waterfall. The atmosphere was just fantastic and a group of Peruvians where playing traditional music on their traditional instruments. Check out the few photos on my album.
One of Peru's traditional dishes and a "must" when you visit Peru is "ceviche"!!
A "must" experience in Lima -or any other coastal city- is complete without ceviche: raw fish (or shellfish) diced in 2cm cubes and marinated in lime juice and hot peppers, served with raw onions, sweet potato and corn!
So I went for "ceviche" and I have to admit it was lovely. Not a dish which I could eat every day…..but definitely one to recommend.
The other reasons why I decided to extend my stay in Arequipa are:
The great Spanish School, the very knowledgeable teachers (in my case Joaquin and Rosa), the friendliest Peruvian people and the fantastic weather! As it is spring over here the temperatures are around 20 - 23 degree every day. So during the day you can easily run around with a short and a T-Shirts while the nights are actually quite chilly but great for sleeping. I just can't believe that it hasn't rained since the last three weeks.
Max the owner of the Spanish School has organised his first "Peruvian Cooking Classes" last week with a few of his German students including me.
He invited us to his house and on the menu were 5 different dishes including a "Pisco Sour" as an aperitif! Check out the photos in my photo album!
"Pisco is made from the distillation of white wine. The Peruvian pisco has a stronger flavor than the Chilean pisco, which has a high sugar content and a strong grape flavor. A pisco sour is a mixture of lemon juice, icing sugar, egg white and pisco"
Para empezar: -Pisco sour
Para la entrada:-Ceviche
Para de secundo:-Aji de callina
Shredded chicken is cooked with a sauce of milk, onions, chilies, garlic, walnuts and cheese. It is served over rice and is a favorite of many Peruvians and tourists alike
-Sudado de pescado
-Cubierto de Brocoli y queso
Para el postre:-Platanos fritos flameado
Bananas flambé
BUEN PROVECHO!
