It has been sometime since I have written my last blog. Now already in Rio but still need to update you on my New Orleans experience. Was great to visit a dear friend for the second time with an expanded family. New Orleans I must say is a very relaxed place if you know people (just like New York). Spend some good time in the Garden District where there are these wonderful old houses made out of wood with beautiful porches. I have loads of pictures but still need to spend some time to download them on here. Yes yes it is about time. Luckily the blog has some basic pictures and I have uploaded some on Facebook. I hope to get that organised this weekend. I was actually quite lucky because during my stay in New Orleans it was Halloween. Lots of houses and places in the French Quarter and Garden District were decorated with skeletons, spiderwebs, witches and of course the well known pumpkins. Just after I arrived in NOLA, we drove together with a friend and the twins to Gulf Shores to stay in a wonderful holiday house, only a golfcart ride away from the beach. The weather was not so great so we ended up spending a lot of time relaxing, eating good food (including 3 dozens of oysters with ketch-up and mierikswortel. What is the word in English again?) and of course shopping at the outlets which I guess is also part of the US experience. The area reminded me a lot of Belize and Cuba..the Carribian feel but different. Back in New Orleans enjoyed a nice dinner in the French Quarter with some good old typical jazz on Bourbon Street. The French Quarter really gives you a feel that you are in Spain or France. And you can also get the typical croissant and cafe au lait! Halloween evening was like a tiny experience of what the Marty Gras must be in New Orleans. Everyone gets dressed up in scary outfits and fantastic make-up and heads towards Frenchman Street. I am happy my friend had organised an outfit for me. This week in New Orleans went by very quickly, probably becaus I already knew the place and felt very much at home. Next stop...Rio!
