Set alarm for 8am, to get an earlier start to the day than yesterday! M slow to get schoolwork done, but eventually we left the room & found a good value restaurant on the next street, for breakfast - ham or chorizo, eggs & frijoles, plus orange juice or cinnamon coffee (café de ollo) - and all for M$28 pp!
Once we'd eaten, we walked to the tourist information booth (in the square with the large fountain & enormous Xmas tree) to confirm that El Cerrito ("little hill") archaeological site was open today, then walked a few blocks south, through a large park, to the bus stop. After some mild confusion, & with the help of a few locals, we were on a small bus (M$6.50 pp) for the ½ hour journey to the village of El Pueblito.
Entrance to the site was free, & after a few minutes waiting in the shade, reading information displays, a guide appeared & took us on a ½ hour stroll around the site, telling us all about what we were seeing (in Spanish!), & L did a brilliant job of translating, & we agreed that it was better to have someone who understood the site explaining it to you, rather than just exploring on your own, or with a guidebook. The sun was beating down from a cloudless sky, & we were all glad to be back in the shade once the tour was finished. As we left the site, we spotted the bus we needed, & 30 minutes later we were back in the town centre.
As we walked back to the hotel, we passed a bakery, & couldn't resist having a doughnut for lunch (!), after which we spent an unsuccessful hour discovering that all three of the museums in town were closed! We consoled ourselves with a round of cold drinks (D's white chocolate & raspberry frappe was delicious!), then returned to the hotel for a rest & a shower. Then we took the laptop to the Jardin Guerrero, where there was free wifi, to check emails, & unsuccessfully attempt to book the next hotel.
For tea, we tried to find a really cheap restaurant that we had walked past earlier, but to no avail, so we ended up in one that was twice the price! Then back to the hotel, to try to get to sleep, with a car alarm blaring outside for ages!
