Everyone awake by 10 to 8, so got up early & got the morning's jobs done in good time. Went back to the nearly "local" restaurant for breakfast (same as yesterday), then back to the hotel to finish packing. Waved down a taxi from the hotel's entrance, & on arrival at the bus station, there was a bus to San Miguel de Allende just about to leave. Hurriedly bought tickets, & ran to the bus to load our bags into the hold & get on board for the 1½ hour journey.
On arrival, got picked up by a very chatty taxi driver, who suggested a couple of hotels, if the one we wanted could not accommodate us. Fortunately, the Hotel Quinta Loreto had a room available - large, well furnished, 1xdbl, 1xsingle bed, own bathroom - M$600 per night, but with a 10% discount for paying in cash. Once we'd put our bags in the room we went for a wander around town, dropping off a bag of laundry at the laundrette as we went, through some pretty, small, streets, which connected a number of picturesque squares. We came a cross a wedding at the parish church - which really does look like something out of a Disney Princess cartoon! We stopped off at a café for cooling drinks, as wandering around the streets in the bright sunlight was taking its toll! The kids had lovely choco-mint milk frappe drinks. We continued our wandering, pausing to look in a few shops as we went, & eventually ended up heading back to the hotel, which was between a street market on one side, & a covered crafts & food market on the other. We strolled around both for a while, & noted some cheap places to eat, for tea. Then we went to have a look around the hotel grounds, & the kids discovered the swimming pool! We quickly went back to our room to get changed & spent ½ an hour, or so, splashing around in the (cold) pool - too cold to go swimming, but the kids still managed to go waist deep!
After drying off & getting dressed, it was time for the kids to get their diaries written, & then we went back to the market for some cheap food! For M$40 each, the kids had veg soup, with a chicken leg in it, plus rice & tortillas. L had beef & beans, & D ended up with something not fully identifiable (possibly tripe?) which was very spicy (nice) but had a very fatty texture (not so nice!). That didn't stop him from clearing his plate, mind you!
After tea, we paid a quick visit to the local shop, for water & beer, then returned to the room. The kids read for a short while, then settled & (eventually) went to sleep. L read & D uploaded blog, as we had discovered that the hotel restaurant had free wifi!
