Both D&L woke in the small hours, & struggled to get back to sleep. L then woke (again) first, & was surprised to find that it was already 10 to 10! Got up & packed as quickly as we could, & went back to the restaurant for breakfast - limited menu, breaded chicken & salad for D&L; battered ham filled with cheese & beans for the kids. Discovered that trying to combine a late start with eating breakfast & getting schoolwork done, doesn't work!
Back to the hotel by 11.45, finished packing & walked up to the bus station for the 12.15 bus to Queretaro. 2½ hour bus journey, with just a couple of brief stops along the way, & a strange Japanese film (dubbed into Spanish) to keep us entertained. Got a taxi from the bus station to Hotel Posada Diamante - basic 2xdbl room & own bathroom for M$550 / night.
Immediately went for a walk to explore the town, & stopped in the centre for a drink, before walking out to the viewpoint to see the aqueduct. Then we visited the House of the Zacatenas - the home of a museum & antique dealer's collection, as well as a chilling tale of marital betrayal, murder & ghosts! A dozen or so rooms, each one displaying a different era's furniture & decoration, from the house & history.
Then we walked around the town's numerous squares, as the sun set, & found the "cheap" restaurant as recommended by LP, which wasn't so cheap! Ate well (although M took ages!), & then it was time to stroll back to the hotel, via the square full of life sized "Christmas displays", & go to bed.
