Up, packed & schoolwork done all in good time, as our intention was to get an early afternoon bus to Ixtlan del Rio. Returned to the café around the corner for breakfast, then walked up to Mercado Corona, but couldn't find the correct street for ages! When we did finally find the shoe weaving man, it turned out that we had not successfully communicated our desires to him, as he sat us down, handed D&L the soles of the shoes, & started to instruct us! An hour later, we were still sat there, with only the beginnings of a shoe tied to our thighs, & it was clear that the process was going to take a lot longer than he had initially suggested! At 12.40, D took the kids back to the hotel, to hurriedly vacate the room, pre-1pm, & then to wait patiently, in the lobby, surrounded by bags, for L to return.
2 hours later, L got back to the hotel, triumphantly clutching a pair of new, hand made, sandals! We immediately hailed a taxi to the bus station (M$100), where we bought tickets for the 4pm bus. We had just enough time for L to have a much deserved (& needed!) cappuccino, before the (slightly delayed) bus arrived. We boarded, & settled down for the ~1 hour journey to Ixtlan. Two hours later, just as D&L were starting to worry that we may have missed our stop, the bus arrived, & we were suddenly on a crowded street, carrying all our bags, with only a vague idea of where we wanted to go. After several attempts, we managed to hail a taxi, & were somewhat concerned that the driver needed to ask a colleague where the hotel was! A few minutes later, & M$20 poorer, we were dropped at the Hotel Maya (M$230/night) & shown our room (2xdbl, own bathroom). It slowly dawned on us that the taxi driver had done nothing more than driven around the block, as the hotel & the bus stop were both on the main street, in the centre of town!
After paying for our 4 night stay, we went to the closest restaurant (2 doors down the street), as recommended by the taxi driver, & ate prawn (J), chicken (L&M) & beef (D) burgers & chips, Mexican style! A quick visit to the shop a further 2 doors down, to buy water & beer, & then back to the room for the kids to go to bed, although, yet again, M had different ideas, & tried to stay awake for as long as she could, much to the annoyance of her parents! D&L lay in bed, flicking through 60 channels of Mexican TV, & eventually ended up watching Rambo, First Blood, before going to sleep!
